IKS Staff Presenter #1

-Adina Segal of Gentle Blossom Arts

Presenter BIO:

Hi there!  My name is Adina Segal and I am the artist, designer, and all around creator behind this lovely little company.  Thanks for visiting my page to learn more about me and what Gentle Blossom Arts is all about!  I enjoy hiking, live music, and creating wearable art for others to enjoy.  I strive to find inspiration in things that feel authentic to me and go from there in my process.  I’ve been making art most of my life, and am just finishing a BA in Metal Working and Jewelry Making. I’ve been teaching educational workshops with IllumIKnation Station since 2012.
Nature is what I glean from the most and it’s also from where I source my materials, sometimes by hand.  While I love working in metal, I have a hard time with the sustainability of my chosen medium.  Since I don’t want to take away from finite resources if I don’t have to, I take the time to source the majority of my silver from local businesses, antique stores, and friends.  The keys I use also have an amazing history behind them that even I don’t know… though I wish I did.  The history behind my materials is what compels me to repurpose them into something beautiful, wearable, and sustainable.

Ahlee Dawson

Presenter BIO:

Aloha! My name is Ahlee and I’m biologist/balance instructor! I love to travel around sharing my passion for balance with others and teaching them to use indoboard balance trainers and furthermore (maybe more importantly) to use balance as a platform for a healthy life. I have a degree in biological science from Salisbury University and have been indoboarding for over 9 years now. I first picked up an indoboard randomly as a child from a local surf shop and taught myself but as I have grown so has my relationship with balance and the symbolism the board provides me. Balance touches us in every aspect and sometimes it takes a step back to realize part of our life unaligned and throwing us off our most effective growing path. I also love botany and self-sustainability. I truly believe that through kindness, support, and an open-mind, willing to learn we can overcome the hate and ignorance that seems to drain us. Can’t wait to meet you!

Relaying the importance of balance as a constant theme in life to festival attendees (and having fun on Indo Boards). The workshop begins by introducing the abstract idea of balance and identifying how valuable it is in any and all circumstance(s). We discuss how balance is applicable to multiple dimensions of wellness and I provide examples of how to maximize wellness and therefore a healthy life. I utilize multiple vectors of sensory involvement to stimulate attendees physical state of balance: essential oils (scent), aromatouch massage therapy/basic stretching (touch), crystal stimulation from balancing crystals such as tiger’s eye and flourite (visualization), relevance of auditory stimulations both natural and non, and focus on things we ingest and how they effect physical and mental balance. I am trying to bring attendees to their Hridayam or at least point them in that direction before engaging in the interactive activity of the workshop. Segueing from physical I go into higher balance and the symbolism of balance for myself, inquire of that symbolism for participants and end with a fun tutorial on the indoboards.
Enjoy this Introduction to the indoboard and a brief indoboard history and current use.
